Aim :
To explore the proposition of the natural in a synthetic world.
Learning Outcomes :
An understanding of natural / synthetic separator.
A knowledge of Passive solar design technology
An inerpretation of place through theory and technology
The development of an architetural thesis
Brief :
An academic has a dream. He wishes to live sustainably in both the city
and the wilderness - in one house at different times of the year. A
modular buildings contractor has been appointed to build the house.
However there are issues.
What is sustainable life like? How does the same house respond to two
different localities? How do we live in different time cultures? If
architecture is building for a specific place, can we make architecture
that is meaningful in more than one place? The dialectic is extreme:
one site is South facing and evolutionary in its time-frame with a need
for autonomy: the other west facing and under instantaneous time.
